TED Talk | Steven Johnson - Week 3

| Where Good Ideas Come From |

- Steven Johnson -

What’s the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear a good idea? Do you wonder how it must’ve been thought of, do you try and look up on how the creator even considered it? Well, this TED Talk, talks about how surroundings play a huge role for idea generation. The major barrier that we face is the problem of ‘connecting vs protecting’, would you consider it more important to protect intellectual property or to share ideas and make the most out of others suggestions? Now coming to ‘Eureka Moments’, most ideas are not just a flash of genius but more like a network. A lot of innovations are brought about together from different ideas. Generating Ideas can be a long process. Ideas can start ‘slow’ that can last months, or even years, before becoming fully formed creation. Some companies, call this ‘innovation time’; designed with completion of thoughts in mind. We have the perception of ideas being instant but in reality people are inclined to dramatise their breakthroughs as a sudden ‘lightbulb moment’ rather than the long - tedious process.Ideas, are not formed on demand.
