A Sense of Accomplishment | Egg Experiment - Week 2

| Dropping Egg Experiment |

- Week 2 -

Aim:
To create a structure using the provided supplies (straws, plastic cup, etc.) that protects the egg from cracking on being dropped from a height.

Coming up with the structure:
On being given the task to create a structure that protects the egg from cracking, the first thing that came to my mind was how all my training in physics had finally come in handy (Yes, I was in the Science stream previously).
I immediately imagined a structure that would protect the whole surface of the egg, and decided to go with a pyramid structure surrounding the egg as the pyramid covers all the angles of any spherical or oval body.I then with the help of straws and tape created the structure.

Doing the experiment:

As this task had to be done in a time limit, our group had no time to experiment with the structure or even have a check if it actually worked. So when we were called for the final drop, all we could do is keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

What went through our minds?
Well, speaking on behalf of the group, It was beyond nerve wrecking as we saw our egg structure being dropped, and we were not sure about anything as the groups that did the task before us were not able to complete it successfully.
So we had already seen two eggs break. Everything went in slow motion after that, I remember myself cringing at the highest level while the egg structure was in mid air.

We’re we successful?

Yes, we were! It was so unexpected and shocking to see that our egg survived, as childish as it sounds, I felt so accomplished.
It was a sense of satisfaction as all the work we put in finally showed its results.

What could've been better?

According to me, we could've made the structure look more presentable by using transparent tape so that the attachments/joints wouldn't have been too obvious, also using the same colour straw would've made the structure look more in order and would've given it a more stable look, and finally we could've used better quality straws for long lasting results.

- Acknowledgement -

I would like to thank every member of my group as I couldn’t have asked for better people to work with.

Also, Team work makes the Dream work.

yes. cheesy quotes are, my thing.
